Product Sound Design

As a member of the sound design team at Mattel, I collaborate closely with designers to breathe life into their toys through sound. Our work is a dynamic blend of creativity and technical expertise. We diligently curate extensive sound libraries, meticulously selecting and tweaking sounds to perfectly match each toy's unique characteristics. In addition to utilizing existing resources, we also take on the task of creating our own sounds, using innovative methods and techniques. One of the most rewarding aspects of our role is working with voice-over talent, ensuring that the scripts and play flow seamlessly integrated with the toys' functionalities. Our aim is to create an engaging and immersive experience for children, captivating their imagination with the power of sound. At Mattel, our sound design team plays a vital role in making sure that every toy became a magical journey of enthusiasm and wonder.

As a product sound designer at Mattel, my main focus is on creating audio experiences for play sets involving vehicles, particularly Matchbox and Hot Wheels. It is truly fascinating to work with both brands as they offer distinct characteristics. Matchbox, with its commitment to realism, presents a unique challenge to recreate authentic sounds that mirror real-life vehicles. From the revving engines to the screeching tires, every detail has to be meticulously crafted. On the other hand, Hot Wheels allows me to unleash my creativity and dive into a larger-than-life world of imagination. The thrilling sounds of high-speed racing and fantastical creatures adds an extra layer of excitement to the play sets. Working with these two contrasting brands provides a dynamic and fulfilling experience that allows me to explore different sonic realms.

Working with American Girl on the historical characters Isabel and Nikki from 1999 was an absolute dream come true. As a team, we were given the exciting opportunity to contribute to various aspects of this project. First and foremost, we were responsible for casting the perfect voices for these beloved characters. It was crucial to find voice actors who could bring Isabel and Nikki to life with authenticity and charm. Additionally, we curated computer sound effects that would transport our audience straight back to the 90s, creating a nostalgic atmosphere throughout the project. One of the highlights of our work was composing six original songs that captured both the independent styles of each girl, and the essence of the era with their iconic 90s flair. It was a joy to craft the sonic template that reflected the spirit of the time and to see these songs become an integral part of the characters' stories. The opportunity to work on this project was truly a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity, and we are proud to have contributed to the magic that is American Girl.
